Cobblestone as design feature
When the house is finished, it is time for landscaping to make the surroundings an orderly sight. Pavement is a components of this environment. Both the territories of private homes and industrial sites can be paved. Best choice for cobblestone - clinker cobblestone - it is durable and has been used for centuries not only as construction material but also as a decoration element. The durability of clinker is achieved by long-term burning at a high temperature. In terms of colour expression, it may not be compared to the blackness of tarmac and the pale colours of concrete cobblestone. At the same time, neither tarmac nor concrete cobblestone is not as long lasting as clinker cobblestone.
Clinker cobblestone is also an organic product containing natural elements. Principal positive qualities of clinker cobblestone Comfortable size for laying cobblestone, high mechanical resistance towards abrasion, very good mechanical resistance, as well as it very difficult to break or damage it. High frost resistance, high chemical stability, natural and organic material (clay). Long-lasting and does not age. It is possible to reuse it (clinker is a very durable material and shall last decades of use). Clinker cobblestone is both a construction as well as decoration element available in a broad range of colours. There are many ways of laying clinker. By combining various methods of laying with the broad spectrum clinker cobblestone is available in, we are provided with various design options to decorate our surroundings with. If cobblestone is intended to bear vehicle traffic that there thickness of the cobblestone, width of seams and type of laying must be taken into consideration.
The performed research shows that clinker cobblestone in vertical
and horizontal direction is very minimal even at very high mechanical loads. This
material has its history as clinker has been used for more than a century while
its classic value shall remain for one more. People always strive for the beautiful,
reliable and long-lasting. Clinker cobblestone possesses all these qualities. Once
laid in, it will charm many generation to come. The surroundings will change, the
trees will grow, one or the other thing will break of age, shall be replaced and
built on top off - however, clinker cobblestone cover shall stay almost as it looked
the day it was laid in.
A new item in our market - the especially thin pavement cobblestone - only 18mm thick. For example, the classic clinker cobblestone cover is laid on a prepared mineral surface of gravel and sand, while this cobblestone is laid on top of a concrete base. Pavement cobblestone is the name given to describe this clinker product. In its essence, clay clinker is very resistant, chemically inert and does not blemish, it is also 100% natural, non-allergic ceramic product. Thus the pavement cobblestone may be used everywhere where there is a concreted or other solid mineral surface area. Pavement cobblestone is glued on top of a solid, hard and primed mineral surface. For this purpose, highly elastic and frost resistance ceramic glues are used. Regardless of whether it is a pavement, parking lot, house skirting, stairs, terrace, garage or a new or a surface to be renovated. Pavement cobblestone is an innovative, extruded ceramic with pores, capillary cavities, through which moisture is removed, thus once glued, it does not separate from the surface and the cobblestone element itself does not stratify. Pavement cobblestone is frost resistant, distinctly non-slippery, wear-resistant and its colour shall not blemish. The material can withstand the load of vehicular transport and it has a fantastic appearance, if the foundation is solid enough. In its essence, the material is a small, thick, frost resistant tile with a size of 240 x 115 x 18mm. Pavement cobblestone is available in 8 different colours.
Preparation of the cobblestone laying area
This is a very important process for the clinker cobblestone to be able to remain beautiful for the decades or even centuries to come. First of all, the layer of soil is removed. When soil layer is removed, the surface is evened out and rammed over. Breakstone and coarse gravel is put over as a basic mineral layer. It is then evened out and rammed over with the vibrating tool. Then the load bearing layer of min. thickness of 10 cm is made with mineral mass of fraction from 0 - 45 mm. The load bearing layer is very important element of clinker cobble stone longevity and quality - this layer performs the functions of load reception, distribution and water drainage. First of all, the first part of the layer is poured in and evened out. Then for purposes of obtaining the guiding correct cobblestone surface slope (1.5 - 2%), a string is stretched out for control of cover assembly. Then the load bearing layer is poured in, evened out and levelled out in the necessary slope. When the load bearing surface is prepared, the cobblestone laying with formation of side border is performed. The side borders of the area are separated with deviation of clinker cobblestone elements both during assembly as well as during use. The cobblestone hat forms the separating border, is assembled on top of a concrete mixture and also fixated from the outside. For the purposes of not having to cut clinker elements so often during the laying process, one must first determine the optimum distance from the border of the cover to the wall of the house or another border. To do this, it is possible t lay single row of cobblestone elements (seam 3 - 5 mm) and thus finalise the distance of supporting border The same is done in cross-direction. In order to determine the height, at which the cobblestone elements and the border shall join, one must calculate in a final protective level of 3 cm above the bearing mineral layer and the thickness of the selected cobblestone. Thus the border height is determined. The final protective layer, sand with a fraction of 0 - 5 mm is poured on top of a rammed load bearing layer area which is surrounded by borders from all sides. Thickness of the protective layer - around 3 cm Sand must be laid with care and levelled with the use of guiding lines with drainage slope in the range of 1.5 - 2%, from example from the wall of the house towards, One must carefully ensure that the protective layer is sufficient in order for the laid in clinker cobblestone to be always slightly higher than the border thus ensuring an unrestricted drainage of the water from the surface of the cover. When the final sand protective layer has been levelled out with the use of guiding lines in a range of 1.5 - 2%, it must be rammed over with a vibrating tool. Clinker surface is laid in by taking separate elements from various palettes and mixing them thus ensuring a more even transition of colours.
It is be done on a solid support surface - side border, house
wall, stairs ect. First of all a number of clinker cobblestone rows must be laid
in or a fragment from the selected ornament. Thus the template is acquired on the
basis of which one can stretch out guiding lines and plan the entire clinker cobblestone
surface. Guiding strings shall allow creating straight seam lines. The width of
the cobblestone seams ranges from 3 - 5 mm. In order to prevent sliding of cobblestone
elements during assembly, it is recommended to fill the seams with a fine sand of
0 - 2 mm fraction immediately after laying. Cobblestone laying is done with the
use of rubber hammer. Clinker cobblestone elements may be cut with diamond saw blades.
When clinker cobblestone is laid in, the entire area is evened out, rammed over
with a vibrating tool equipped with a rubber sheet. After the cobblestone has been
evened out, the seams are once again filled with sand (0 - 2 mm fraction). Then
a water jet and brush is used. Finally, the clinker cobblestone cover is washed.
